Join the 2nd African Transport Research Conference (ATRC 2027) in Cape Town!
The Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF) and the University of Cape Town (UCT) are excited to announce the Call for Abstracts for the 2nd African Transport Research Conference (ATRC 2027).
Following the highly successful inaugural African Transport Research Conference in March 2024, we invite researchers from across the world to submit work focused on transforming urban mobility across Africa. This is an opportunity to share findings, exchange ideas, and contribute to critical discourse shaping the continent’s transport future.

Conference Dates: 2–4 March 2027
Abstract Submission Opens: 1 March 2026
Abstract Submission Deadline: 30 June 2026
Core Themes
We welcome submissions across all land-based transport modes — both passenger and freight — in urban and rural contexts. Key thematic areas include:
- Inclusive and Equitable Mobility
- Road Safety, Health, and the Environment
- Policy, Planning, and Governance
- Data, Analytical Tools, and Emerging Technologies
All submissions will be peer-reviewed, and selected papers will be considered for publication in Elsevier’s African Transport Studies (AFTRAN) and Transportation Research Procedia (TRP).
