This session will bring together researchers and practitioners working at the forefront of popular transportation equity, motivating factors for users, and the role of gender in informal transport across different regions of the Global South.

Speakers include:

• Carla Quesada Alluin, Centro Para la Sostenibilidad Urbana and San Jose Living Lab — presenting on user motivations and needs for popular transport, especially for women in Pavas, San Jose.
• Fernanda Rivera, Global Network for Popular Transportation — presenting on transport-related social exclusion from a gender-lens and how popular transport addresses women's mobility needs in Xochimilco, Mexico City.
• Lucy Kihonge, Flone Initiative — presenting on the Flone Initiative's gender-sensitive transport toolkit and the role of structural interventions in addressing gender equity and safety within Nairobi's matatu (minibus) system.
