Informal Transport: How the Global South Moves

Event Details

In many cities, informal transport provides the majority of trips. But “unofficial” mobility services are often neglected in their role for improving access to jobs and opportunities for people and not integrated with transport systems. This event will launch the new joint PRISM and World Resource Institute publication Missing Mobilities - Bridging the Popular Transport Gap in Climate Adaptations, which highlights a need to address climate resilience. The event will also share insights from global experts on informal transport, including the International Transport Forum and its recent report on informal transport, the Global Network for Popular Transportation, and Columbia University.

With:

  • Ben Welle, Director, Integrated Transport. World Resources Institute, USA: Release of new WRI publication and moderator
  • Josephine Macharia, International Transport Forum: Findings from recent ITF report on informal transport
  • Andrea Gil Leon, Executive Director, Global Network for Popular Transportation, Costa Rica: Insights on the role of the informal transport sector.
  • Dr. Jacqueline Klopp, Director of the Center for Sustainable Urban Development, Columbia University, USA: Insights from PRISM, the Partnership for Research on Informal and Shared Mobility.
