Missing Mobilities: Dr. Jacqueline Klopp Presents Landmark Study on Popular Transport and Climate Adaptation at ITF 2025

Dr. Jacqueline Klopp presented the joint Columbia University and World Resources Institute and Volvo Research and Education Foundation (VREF)- funded report called "Missing Mobilities: The Popular Transport Gap in Climate Adaptation" at the 2025 International Transport Forum (ITF) on May 22nd. In the panel titled "Spotlight on Research: Advancing Climate and Environmental Preparedness", Dr. Klopp, who shared the floor with other scholars working on the topic of transportation and climate adaptation, provided a glimpse of what popular transportation looks like, its ubiquity in the Global South and its exclusion from climate adaptation plans in seven cities that are part of the Partnership for Research on Informal and Shared Mobility (PRISM), despite these cities' exposure to climate risks. The presentation was followed by interesting questions from the moderator and the audience, inquiring about public policies to address this gap and the presence of these challenges around popular transportation in the Global North and Global South contexts. Dr. Klopp emphasized the need to better understand the sector and the importance of engaging it in the formulation of climate adaptation policies.
