This blog discusses insights from "Climate, Equity, and Health Problems in Road Transport: Closing the Popular Transportation Gap," a chapter authored by Dr. Jacqueline Klopp as part of the broader publication Urban Sustainable Development: Governance, Finance, and Politics, edited by Pedro Vormittag, Marianna Albuquerque and Eugénie L. Birch. This work emerged from discussions at the Bellagio Convening, where experts, policymakers, and urban planners examined urgent transportation challenges and sustainable urban mobility solutions.

In early November, the Next Generation PhD. Scholars of PRISM's Ghana Living Lab presented their research plans at the University of Ghana, focusing on innovative mobility solutions and regulatory challenges. Their work addresses ride-hailing governance, three-wheeler mobility services, and perceived accessibility, contributing to equitable and sustainable urban transport systems in Ghana.
Event Summary
The convening, Emergent + Empowered: Mobilizing Global Popular Transportation Networks for Equity, Health, and Climate, was held from September 9 to 13, 2024, at the Bellagio Center. This event was designed to unite changemakers and stakeholders in co-creating a shared call to action, a global strategy, and a data/research agenda to integrate popular transportation into efforts addressing sustainable development, just transitions, and emissions reduction.
From March 19 to 21, Washington D.C. hosted the Transforming Transportation 2024 and Paratransit / Popular Transportation Day at the World Bank Headquarters, focusing on "Mobilizing Finance for Climate Action"
This video is an attempt to reveal the everyday movement of a commuter seen across a station complex in the Mumbai metropolitan region. The video study is located in the Nalasopara railway station complex, looking at the current landscape of vendors and informal transportation forming an ecosystem of services for the inhabitants of the neighbourhood.
